I wanted to make a picture for the lovely Nevery Lorakeet of Les Petits Details. She’s been generous of spirit, full of patience when I’ve accidentally deleted myself from her blogger group and has been an all-round kind and lovely person. Oh, and she makes rockin’ biker-cum-ballerina outfits, too. I’m honoured to call her a friend.

The Fashioncentric Hi 5 Hunt is On!

The Fashioncentric Hi 5 Hunt has officially started! Check out the web site for more information plus links to more 130 participating stores. If you visited four shops a day for the month, you still won’t have visited them all — it’s huge!

Look for the orange and white three-sided package for the hunt items in-store. I’ve been teleporting around using the web site SLURLs and there’s also a handy teleporter HUD that can be collected at the inworld kiosk.

Raspberry fields forever

I didn’t have much time to shop this week — it was freakish good fortune that I read the week’s colour while wearing a suitable dress and arranging mounds of raspberry-hued plants (I’m making a butterfly-themed garden which will take until about 2017 at the rate I’m going).

Luna seems to be dipping into my head and picking out my favourite colours. I’ve loved every week of her 52 weeks of colour challenge so far and next week’s dandelion is going to be enjoyable as well.

52 weeks of colour part deux — week 5, patina

I hope this is the trickiest week in Luna’s 52 weeks of colour challenge. I had a firm image of the colour patina in my mind but everything I found while trawling SL was too green, too blue, too dark, too shiny, too won’t-buy-it-as-I-won’t-wear-it-again, too I don’t know, challenging!

I was in Mon Tissu admiring a perfect muted-green cardigan that I was about to buy when a little voice told me to check the undisciplined mess that is my inventory … yep, I already owned it. The traditional jade of a patina finish was blasted away when I tried an aged look in the picture but I wanted to capture the feel of a picnic long past, like an old snapshot that might fall from the leaves of a photo album.

To the challenge participants who are using Blogger: I am still having problems leaving comments on your blogs (the security code isn’t appearing so I can’t enter one), but I am reading and admiring your photos and words.

Adieu

If the news of Olive Juice Poses closing wasn’t disappointing enough, the closure of Lost World this week brought a double blow.

This is a quick picture taken with one of the Olive Juice poses I bought at the current half-price sale and in front of the last tree standing at Lost World.

The good fortune for the week was that I was cleaning my inventory and trying on this iron-like dress when Luna announced the challenge colour — bonus.

Sometimes, despite desire and the affection in our hearts, we hurt those we cherish the most and lose them from our lives. We can try to mend fences all we like, but when the damage is already done our efforts are usually exercises in prolonging the pain. We keep reaching though because hope ignores logic almost every time.

That’s what I was trying to portray here.

PS: I was saddened by the news that Olive Juice Poses is closing in the next month. I had already taken this picture before I found out, but there will be more Olive Juice poses used in coming weeks as a thank you to Bella for the creativity and good humour she put into every pose and prop. All the best for you and your family in the future.

Dragonflight

This is my first contribution to CapCat Ragu and Meilor Minotaur’s Meta_Body project as part of the All My Independent Women exhibition.

CapCat and Meilor have been generous in creating a set of avatars at no cost and with full permissions for anyone to use their original content to bring to life their own images and stories.

The dragonfly avatar took my fancy as I often look at birds and insects and marvel at what I consider the miracle of winged flight. Yet, for these creatures, wings are only the tool used as their form of movement for daily survival.

On a more metaphoric level, I intentionally left a generous crop so my avatar was absorbed by the surroundings. We are the centre of our own universes but are always a part of a world much larger than us.

BYO Butterflies to the Garden Party

I must confess some sadness at reaching the fiftieth week of Luna’s 52 weeks of colour challenge. I’ve encountered blogs kept by seriously talented and creative thinkers and found some new and clever designers who make the most of SL’s technical limitations.

The other side is that I’m amazed I’ve stuck with a project for a year as my attention span is poor (to put it kindly) and I’ve enjoyed the discipline of setting a weekly goal.

I’m currently working on some images for the Meta_Body project so I didn’t have a lot of time to get all fancypants with this picture, but thankfully pretty frocks and butterflies speak for themselves. Hell, I don’t even know if I got the colour correct but I checked the little buds of the young mulberry tree in my backyard and they looked similar (but not ripe enough for ripping off the tree and eating by the handful).

One’s Thoughts are Friends

Moss is this week’s colour for Luna’s 52 weeks of colour challenge. I intended to highlight the dress but the setting and light lent themselves to becoming the stars. And there are few more pleasant places to sit and ponder than the Alirium sim.

I have to confess to just guessing the colour for brickred in this week’s challenge. Something red, something pretty, something to leap about among the butterflies. I also over de-rendered the setting I wanted at Humanoid so I went with the sparse and moody thang.
