But kind of back
The last few months have been stressful so I haven’t been online much. Some selected lowlights are hospitalisation and then recovery from an unexpected medical problem, a chest infection possibly taken from the hospital, a lot of work travel and last week my employer chose to make my position redundant. I think I finish tomorrow but the process isn’t being handled well.
I hope to spend some more time in-world and to catch up with your flickr streams.

More Firestorm tests
My experiments are continuing (when time allows) with the new version of Firestorm. I can’t take pictures of more than 4,000 pixels like other people, but I don’t remember being able to do that in the past anyway. Changing the settings to more than 3,000 pixels wide would add lines to images.
I think all I need until Santa brings me a new computer is a gentler face light or illuminator. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Unplugged
Sometimes taking pictures doesn’t go quite to plan. I got the original of this one to final edit after a couple of hours’ work to realise I missed an error that no editing magic could fix.
Back to the drawing board.
I then upgraded to the new version of Firestorm and had the black screen of death, the pink screen of death and some thinking time to read the jira entries while downloading 180 megabytes of updated graphics drivers.
Then I repeated the process as nothing worked and followed different recommendation for my laptop and downloaded another 180 megabytes of drivers. I have SL but now my images are too soft in focus (depth of field is off to no avail) and the new video drivers have made my screen blurry in places on the laptop.
I’ll try again another day when I have time. I can see an upside in that I somehow have shadows now and there’s a bazillion more windlight settings to play with!

Corrosion
I was checking out wuwaichun’s flickr stream for some new places to visit and Cica Ghost’s Rust installation caught my eye.
It’s a little bit corroded cogs and fences, a little bit of steampunk and a little bit of whimsical animals to bring rusted, ageing elements alive with clever lighting and movement. It’s an inspiring place to visit.

The 2013 Pose Fair
This year’s Pose Fair is on now until 14 April and the official web site is here. I’ve loved reading all the blog feeds with new poses and props and can’t wait to visit when I have some SL time tomorrow.

Seven SL facts
I can’t recall ever participating in a meme but Strawberry Singh’s intriguing seven facts meme got me pondering about things you may not know about me. I hope you can share your seven things as well and post a link here or on Berry’s blog.
1 I am obsessed about not getting involved in SL drama. My RL has enough bumps in the road and I am militant about my sense of fun and wonder being disturbed.
2 If designers give me goodies to blog, I usually go to their shops and buy something else to spread the good karma.
3 I have more than 600 poses in inventory. I compiled the first 400 manually in an old and reliable hud but I’m too lazy to scroll through it; I usually go and buy more at the time I need them.
4 If I take a picture in someone’s sim, I always hunt down the tip jar and leave some lindens. I didn’t know owners could see who gave tips until someone sent me a thank you note — if avatars could blush, mine would have turned a bright shade of red.
5 12,000 is the point at which I fret irrationally about my inventory count. The total is about 12,600 at the moment so some items will have to go or I’ll keep thinking about them.
6 Even if I don’t have land, I still search for and buy houses. Much of my inventory consists of houses I can’t bear to delete as they hold memories of placing and decorating them. However, I live in a basic house with no furniture as all my allowance is used on the garden.
7 I haven’t been involved with anyone for about four years since a relaxed and affectionate thing with a man from America. It ended awfully after he accused me of contacting his RL wife (so many things are wrong with that sentence I can’t even begin). I’m not looking but maybe a nice man in a friendly timezone will emerge from an orange cloud and rez in front of me one day.
Bonus fact
My favourite creation in SL is the Happy Mood bunnies (but I guess that’s no secret). I bought all the variations in size and colour.

Flight cancelled
This picture was made to celebrate the plan that I’d be offline due to a work trip to Norway. The course was confirmed and then cancelled, and again confirmed and cancelled with three days to go. I was dreading 29 hours of airports and flying each way, but now that I’m not going, there is nothing I want more than to visit cold and lovely Norway.
I then added the ‘return to sender’ stamp to the picture. I hope to visit Norway another time.
